Imports from India and other countries have been obstructed due to the blockade created by cadres of United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) in Indo-Nepal border points in different districts of the Tarai region for the fourth consecutive day on Sunday.UDMF cadres have been staging sit-in protests blocking the imports at Biratnagar-Jogbani border for the last four days. Upendra Yadav, chief of Federal Socialist Forum (FSF) Nepal, on Sunday led the protests at the border.
Three agitating cadres were injured in Morang after police baton charged them, according to Raj Kumar Yadav, chief of FSF, Morang.All the imports have been blocked due to the protests, according to Biratnagar customs office. Transportation agents have stopped transporting the goods from Jogbani, Indian citing security reasons.The indo-Nepal border point at Gaur, district headquarters of Rautahat, has also been blocked due to the ongoing sit-in protest organized by leaders of UDMF, Federal Madhesi Front and Rastriya Muslim Gathbandhan.The agitators have been organizing the protest program in ‘no man’s land’ in Gaur bordering Bairginiya of India.The blockade by the agitating Madhesi cadres for the last four days in the district has resulted in shortage of petroleum products and commodities of basic needs.
In Dhanusha, agitating UDMF cadres and leaders also obstructed the Indo-Nepal border points at Jatahi and Bharariya. The cadres have intensified their protest with 24-hour blockade at the border points for the last three days.In Mahottari, agitating leaders of Madhesi front have obstructed the imports from India via Bhitamod, Matihani and Samsi along the Indo-Nepal border points. They have constructed tents in the border areas to impose the blockade.In Sarlahi, leaders and cadres of agitating UDMF staged sit-in protests, blocking the imports from 11 different Indo-Nepal border points including Malangawa, the major border point in the district.Due to the blockades, locals and traders have been hard hit with acute shortage of goods and daily commodities.In Rupandehi, two petroleum tankers and two LPG bullets have entered via Indo-Nepal border point of Belhiya on Sunday, as per the customs office.Customs chief Lawanya Dhakal informed that the imports from the Indo-Nepal border had been stalled completely on Saturday due to the unofficial blockade.
