Rekha Thapa was born in Salakpur in Morang district of Eastern Nepal. After graduating from school, she moved to Kathmandu for her higher studies. As she had strong desire to be an actress, she continued to participate in various modelling glances & glamorous programs. Later she took part in the Miss Nepal Pageant in 1999, and ended up in second place.Thapa worked as a model, and was subsequently approached by the producer Chhabiraj Ojha with a proposal to work in the movie “Hero” with Rajesh Hamal. During the shooting of Hero, Chhabiraj Ojha proposed to her, and the two were married in traditional style.[citation needed] After ten years, the couple separated.
