13 personnel of the Indian Seema Surakshya Bal (SSB), who were arrested from Kechana point in Jhapa, on Sunday morning, were released after being detained for five hours.
Chief District Officer of Jhapa, Tej Prasad Poudel said that they were released after it was found that they had entered into Nepali territory by mistake.
“We handed them over to the chief of SSB battalion on the Indian side of the border after learning upon investigation that they had entered into Nepal by mistake,” Paudel told Setopati.
The SSB were arrested from Kechana with arms early on Sunday. Upon arrest they had claimed that they entered into Nepali territory while chasing smugglers bringing petrol to Nepal. They were kept at APF camp based in Kechana.
